Year 1 Phonics Screening 2016
During 2014 and 2015 the proportion of our pupils who achieved the expected standard was broadly average. To improve this we invested in new resources and training for all our staff to ensure a more consistent approach to the teaching of phonics. The impact of this was that in 2016 more pupils than ever achieved the expected standard.

Our new scheme of work also helped those pupils in Year 2 who had not achieved the standard by the end of Year 1 as by the end of 2015/16 they had all achieved the standard.
priorities for 2017
To build on our successes in 2016 we will continue to develop our staffs skills in the teaching of phonics. We are also aware that just because all our Year 2 pupils passed the re-sit it does not mean that they are as strong in their phonics knowledge as others in the cohort. For this reason we will continue to offer additional phonics support for these pupils in Year 3.
